Why the Foundation Bought Wheelbags in Bulk, Then Gave Them Away

A partnership with EnableGear, a company founded by a wheelchair user, supported a disability-owned business and put a useful product in wheelchair users’ hands at no cost.

Sometimes the most useful support is an everyday one. That’s the idea behind The ReM.A.R.C.able Foundation’s partnership with EnableGear, which put free Wheelbags, a wheelchair bag designed by a wheelchair user, in the hands of wheelchair users at the Abilities Expos the foundation attended.

EnableGear was started by Janele, a wheelchair user who needed a bag that wouldn’t spill her belongings and was easier to reach than one hung on the back of her chair. She designed the Wheelbag to solve both problems.

Marc Fucarile met Janele at the 2025 Abilities Expo and fell in love with the product. The foundation then partnered with EnableGear on a bulk order of foundation-branded Wheelbags.

Two wins from one order

The approach delivered twice. The order supported a wheelchair user-owned business, and the Wheelbags themselves went to individuals at the Abilities Expos at no cost to them.

A wheelchair bag designed by someone who uses one

Most bags are built for people who walk. Hung on the back of a chair, they are hard to reach, and they can tip belongings onto the floor. Janele designed the Wheelbag around her own daily routine as a wheelchair user, so everything stays secure and within reach.

That lived experience is exactly why the foundation chose it. A wheelchair bag that works the way its users actually move is a small upgrade that makes every day a little easier.

Why we support disability-owned businesses

The foundation’s grants and partnerships reach nonprofits and disability-owned businesses alike. Buying from a wheelchair user-owned company kept the money in the community the foundation serves, and the free bags reached people who could use them right away. See more partners on our impact page.

Everyday tools, lasting impact

Not every form of support is a major grant. A bag that keeps a phone, wallet, and medication secure and within reach can remove a small frustration that repeats dozens of times a day. Multiplied across every person who received one, that adds up.

The Wheelbag giveaway sits alongside the foundation’s larger programs: adaptive equipment such as handcycles and mono skis, financial assistance for individuals and caregivers, and grants to organizations serving people with mobility challenges. Together they share one goal, helping people with disabilities keep moving forward on their own terms.
