WOBURN, Mass. — The ReM.A.R.C.able Foundation marked its official kick-off on April 17 with its Inaugural Fundraising Gala, a Woburn charity gala of food, music, and raffles dedicated to one local family.
Outside of costs, every dollar raised went to the Hutchinson/Campbell family for the care of Mark Hutchinson, who was born with cerebral palsy. Mark’s parents were his caregivers for his whole life. After their passing, his sister Kate took on that role, while also raising a family and working full time.
A home that fits the family
Kate has had to pay for help during the hours she can’t be with Mark. Because Mark has been dedicated to his job for 29 years, he isn’t eligible for much assistance with those costs. The family is also adding on to Kate’s home to give Mark his own safe living space, which will let her care for him more hours of the day and reduce the cost of outside care.
Proceeds from the gala were directed toward both: offsetting the cost of Mark’s care and helping fund the construction on Kate’s home.
Mark is something of a local celebrity in Woburn, where he serves as the official weather forecaster for the Woburn Residents’ Facebook page.
Why our first Woburn charity gala focused on a caregiver
Caregivers are a core part of the foundation’s mission. When a parent, sibling, or spouse becomes a full-time caregiver, the cost of care, lost work hours, and home modifications can add up quickly. Kate’s story, balancing her brother’s care with a family and a full-time job, is one many families will recognize.
By dedicating its very first event to one family, the foundation showed how directly community giving can change daily life: paid help during the hours Kate cannot be there, and a safer space built so Mark can live closer to the person who cares for him. Mark was born with cerebral palsy, and like many adults with disabilities, he relies on family for much of his care.
Support for caregivers all year
The gala was a beginning, not a one-time gift. The ReM.A.R.C.able Foundation provides financial assistance to individuals with disabilities and the caregivers who stand by them, alongside adaptive equipment and grants to community organizations.
